The MG ZS EV is a small electric SUV that was launched in 2019. It seems that with the ZS EV, the automaker has found the niche which might finally take it up the ladder.

What makes the MG ZS EV a superb vehicle is that it is not just affordable but also comes with a plethora of features as standard.
So here’s an in-depth MG ZS EV review discussing all that you would want to know about this vehicle.
Exterior
Looks are a subjective matter but I personally don’t find anything special about the exterior design of the 2022 MG ZS EV.
It resembles a lot of other vehicles in this category and thus the exterior looks definitely won’t be the only factor leading to its purchase.
However, a few distinctive features of the vehicle include a well-hidden charging port and a body colour matched front grille.
Interior
The interior space is quite decent for a vehicle of this size. The materials used in the vehicle feel cheap but the availability of a large number of features somehow make up for this.
Some of the distinctive features of the interior include:
- 1-inch infotainment system;
- Wireless Mobile Phone Charging;
- MG iSMART app so you can start the climate control in advance.

The iSMART feature comes in handy during extreme weather conditions as you can set the temperature of your vehicle to your favourite settings before you even hop inside the car.
Motor & Performance
The vehicle is equipped with a 115 kW motor which might not seem too big on paper. However, the performance is adequate.
The 2022 MG ZS EV sprints from a standstill to 97 kph in just 8.2 seconds, thanks to the 206 lb-ft generated by its motor.
Battery & Charging
The 2022 MG ZS EV has a 72.6 kWh water-cooled battery. By using the 50 kW public rapid charger, the 2022 MG ZS EV can be charged up to 80% in just a fraction over an hour.

Range
With around 440 km range on a single charge, the 2022 MG ZS EV is a great option if you want to travel long distances with your electric vehicle.
Efficiency
The MG ZS EV is a pretty efficient vehicle that gets an efficiency average of around 17.8 kWh per 100 kilometres.
MG Pilot & ADAS
The vehicle is loaded with several Advanced Driver Assistance Systems which include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control;
- Lane Keep Assist;
- Collision Warning;
- Automated Braking.

What Makes It So Popular In The UK?
MG was formerly a UK based brand that has now been taken over by the Chinese. However, the automaker still offers its products in the UK and the MG ZS EV is one of the hot favourite vehicles in this market.
Here are some of the features that help the 2022 MG ZS EV in being so popular in the UK:
- Affordability: Starting at around €33,000, it is one of the cheapest crossover EV options available to customers;
- Great Value To Money: Despite its low cost, the vehicle offers a wide array of features as standard which makes it great value for money;
- Decent Range: The company claims a range of around 440 km which is well above what many other EVs presently offer;
- Relatively Quick Charging: You can get to the 80% mark in just an hour or so. This means that even with a short charging break, you can have enough range to last for the whole day.
These are some of the reasons that make the 2022 MG ZS EV a highly compelling vehicle.
It is one of the, if not the, best budget electric SUVs. However, personally I don’t like the rear lights of the vehicle and would love to see a facelift coming anytime soon.
