Best Selling EVs In Europe 2021

The recent push towards the EV segment in Europe has increased the demand for such vehicles and this is why a large number of electric vehicles were sold by various automakers in 2021.

This article delves into the top EVs in Europe during 2021 and discusses what made these vehicles the best sellers so that other automakers can follow this pattern and offer their vehicles with similar features.

1. Tesla Model 3

Being the most selling EV in the world, the Model 3 has always been at the top of the charts and this year has been no exception, even for European sales where the Model 3 was able to completely blow the competition out of the waters with impressive numbers.

The sales figures soared with an 84% year on year growth in Europe and in 2021 a total of 142,905 units were sold which seems nothing special as the Tesla Model 3 now has a track record of being the hottest vehicle in the segment of electric cars.

With a 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) time of 3.1 seconds due to its 321 kW motor, it has the potential of putting even serious racing machines to shame and that too while having the capacity to seat four adults in comfort.

The 576 km range is also adequate for most users and it is due to such extraordinary performance that the Tesla Model 3 has been retaining its rank as the most sold EV in the world for the past several years.

2. Renault Zoe

The title of the second most sold EV in Europe goes to the Renault Zoe which managed to grab sales figures of 72,562 units and comes with a range of 386 km along with the ability to add 145 km of range with its rapid charge within 30 minutes.

With a great exterior design and a relatively low starting price of around €32,000, it’s a bargain.

3. Volkswagen ID.3

The VW ID.3 also starts around €32,000 and with a total of 69,567 units sold last year, it was the third most sold EV in Europe.

Due to its 77kWh battery, the ID.3 delivers a range of 544 km whereas the performance version of the vehicle has a range of 150 kW which propels the car from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in 7.1 seconds.

4. Volkswagen ID.4

Even the fourth spot on the list of the best-selling EVs in Europe during 2021 was taken by a member of the VW group as the company sold a total of 55,006 ID.4 units and this also demonstrates how far the VW brand has come, in the field of electric vehicles, just a matter of years.

The ID.4 has the same battery pack as the ID.3 which means that it gets the 77kWh battery, however, due to its bigger body size, the range drops relatively as compared to the smaller ID.4 variant and thus with normal driving conditions, owners should expect a range of around 419 km which seems pretty impressive for an SUV of this size.

The ID.4’s motor produces a total of 150 kW and 169 lb-ft of torque and the vehicle has a 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) time of 7.6 seconds.

5. Kia Niro

In 2021, Kia was able to sell a total of 46,705 Kia Niro vehicles which had a 67.5 kWh battery pack coupled with a motor that produced 150 kW and 291 lb-ft torque so the quick acceleration of 7.8 seconds from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) was comprehendible.

6. Fiat 500E

The Fiat 500E is a small-sized vehicle & thus has a relatively small battery pack of 42 kWh due to which its range tops out at 320 km, however, the 87 kW motor allows the Fiat 500E to travel from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in 9.0 seconds.

The third VW vehicle on this list is the VW E-Up! whose 40,835 units were sold in 2021 and the company proudly claims a range of around 256 km from its smallest EV that has a battery capacity of 36.8 kWh which might not sound too high these days but when taking into consideration that the vehicle will be mostly used in urban areas, it makes complete sense.

Final Verdict

While Tesla’s Model 3 continues to lead the list of the best-selling EVs in Europe, it seems that the VW group is coming hard at it with its three models making to this list this year and more to join in the future.
