France has always been one of the top nations of the world that have embraced all new technologies with open arms.
This is why the country has once again been at the forefront in embracing global EV adoption and the results of the change are obvious.

EU Has Been A Primary Reason
One reason why the country and its people seem so invested in changing over to the electric field is that the EU has already decided 2035 as the year after which no new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles will be produced.
France Showing Healthy EV Figures
January 2022 has been a pivotal month in the French adoption of the EV policy as the overall EV sales saw a surge of 21%.
With more than 800,000 Plug-In vehicles already on its roads, France is one of the leading nations in this regard.
EV Market Snowballing Despite Rough Times For Auto Industry
The sales of so many EVs is big considering that the French car market is shrinking for the past 8 months. So, with an overall annual decrease of 19%, the situation seems to have aggravated fast.

This is why the growth of the electric vehicle market means even more to the French market. So, with a total of 19,089 EVs registered in January, the segment is presently booming.
Furthermore, when we take into consideration that out of these 19,089 EVs, 18,152 are passenger cars.
This means that the growth of the EV market can be primarily attributed to the raised awareness about this platform among the general French public.
The EV passenger cars registered in January accounted for a total of 17.6% of the total passenger cars during the month.
Registration Of Different EV Types In France During January 2022
Let’s now break down the total 19,089 EVs registered in France during the last month which will enable us to get a better idea of the market and its dynamics.
Passenger Battery Electric Vehicles
This is the most important segment considering that in advanced countries, passenger cars are one of the most imperative modes of conveyance.

The battery-electric vehicle segment is the latest technology that promises a greener and healthy planet for us. This is why more and more people are getting their passenger vehicles with battery-electric vehicle configurations.
In January 2022, a total of 10,218 were registered in France which was around 58% of the total electric vehicles registered in the country during this period.
It is also worth noting that this number also represents around 9.9% of the total market share of vehicles registered during the month in France.
Passenger Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles have been in service for quite some time now and have thus been able to make their mark in the industry.

However, last month a total of 7,934 PHEVs were registered in France which is a 3% lower number than before but still it accounts for 7.7% of the total market share during January 2022 in France.
Light Commercial Battery Electric Vehicles
The commercial segment is making the switch to battery electric vehicles and thus 888 vehicles in this category were registered last month which is a 21% increase and also represents 3.1% of the total market share.
Light Commercial Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles
The light commercial plug-in segment, however, did not show any impressive figures and thus a total of just 49 vehicles were registered during last month.
Final Verdict
Last year France saw a 62% increase in EV registrations as compared to 2020.
This was already a huge increment and, from what it looks, this number will only increase in the future as several companies are on their way to offering their best seller vehicles this year.
