Polestar 5 – What Do We Know So Far?

Polestar is the performance brand of the world-renowned automotive company Volvo.

For now, the company has only two models dubbed the Polestar 1 & 2 whereas according to reports the Polestar 3 will also be made available in the latter part of the current year.

The Polestar 4 which will have an SUV format, will also follow suit and be launched soon afterwards.

When Will The Polestar 5 Be Launched?

The latest vehicle that is expected to join the Polestar league will be known as Polestar 5 and it will be launched in 2024. It is worth noting that earlier on the same vehicle was revealed with the title of Polestar Precept Concept car.

Polestar has decided to look directly into the eyes of the top luxury vehicles on the market this time, and thus the Polestar 5 will have everything it takes to compete with the best of the best.

How Much Will It Cost?

Now that the company is entering the luxury sedan segment, it wants to do so in style. That’s why the Polestar 5 will be loaded with contemporary technological features.

This comes at a cost and thus the Polestar 5 will have a price tag of around €95,000 (£82,000).

It is pertinent to mention here that the price has not yet been announced by Polestar and this is just an educated guess keeping in mind the specifications that the Polestar 5 is expected to feature.

Which Will Be Its Major Rivals?

Major rivals of the Polestar 5 will include the big guns such as:

  • Porsche Taycan;
  • Mercedes-Benz EQS;
  • Tesla Model S;
  • Lucid Air.
Where Will The Vehicle Be Manufactured?

The new Polestar 5 will be manufactured in China and the company is confident that it will succeed in making this facility carbon neutral.

A Completely Unique Platform

It will be a modern car just as you would expect from such a vehicle thus it will have a unique platform.

According to reports, the company is looking to develop a bonded-Aluminum platform for the vehicle. This will have two benefits which are:

  • Added strength;
  • Lightweight
Motors & Performance

The company is still silent about the motor configuration of the car. However, we believe that it will have a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.

If the vehicle has to exist as a viable option in the market, it will have to possess more power and torque than the Model S and the Porsche Taycan which are already very powerful vehicles.

How Far Will It Take You On A Single Charge?

The vehicle will most probably have a range of around 500 km thanks to its huge 103 kWh battery.

The Lucid Air and Model S already have more than 650 km range so we believe that a long-range variant of the Polestar 5 will also hit the market soon after its launch.

The vehicle will have the option of DC fast charging but the company has not yet revealed the maximum rating at which the charger will operate.

Interior

The interior of the Polestar 5 will also be a sight to behold. That’s because it has to compete against the best EVs out there right now.

The use of abundant recycled material will ensure that the Polestar 5 will focus on environmental sustainability.

The center screen will be 15-inches in size whereas a smaller infotainment screen of 12-inches showing additional information will also be present.

What makes the vehicle enticing is that instead of the conventional side mirrors, it will most probably feature two small screens mounted on the front doors.

These screens will be connected to cameras located at the sides of the car and thus display the output of the cameras.

Safety

As Polestar is a sub-brand of Volvo, the Polestar 5 will have a strong focus on passenger safety and thus several safety features will exist in the vehicle including but not limited to:

  • Standard lane-departure warning with a lane-keeping assist system;
  • A standard automated emergency braking system with pedestrian detection for safer driving;
  • System for adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.
Final Verdict

If Polestar can deliver the Polestar 5 by 2024, it might pose a direct threat to the well-set competitors.

However, only time will tell how customers respond to this luxury performance sedan from a relatively new brand.
