How Does This Technology Work?

Wireless chargers operate based on inductive coupling between coils. A magnetic field is formed between these coils, and capacitive coupling between the metal electrodes allows power to be transferred wirelessly.

To charge an EV wirelessly, the vehicle’s batteries must be placed over the coils, and the vehicle will begin charging immediately.

Barriers To Wireless Charging

One of the major barriers to wireless charging, as previously discussed, is the high cost of these chargers.

This prevents even companies and governments that are eager to transition to the EV segment from installing large-scale wireless EV chargers.

Another major barrier, for the time being, is that these chargers only work for a short distance, which means that the distance between the charger and the EV must be very limited.


Aside from that, the charger and the vehicle must be perfectly aligned. The wireless charger will not work properly if they are not aligned.

In everyday parking situations, this is difficult to achieve and is easier said than done. As a result, for the time being, most users believe that using wireless EV chargers is more of a hassle than a convenience.
