If you are a fan of Mercedes SUVs, the company has got some good news for you. This Tuesday the German luxury automaker launched its second all-electric SUV.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, as the name gives away, is the SUV variant of the electric EQS sedan launched last year.

According to reports, the newly launched electric SUV will hit the US market by next year.
Similarity With EQS & EQE Sedans
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is based on the same Mercedes EVA platform that we’ve previously seen on the EQS and EQE sedans.
While the length of the SUV is the same as the EQS sedan i.e. 320 cm, its height is 19.8 cm more. Besides this, it is offered as a seven-seater vehicle for added utility.
Being an EV, range is paramount for the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV as well. This is why the company has adopted an aerodynamic approach for this vehicle as well which will be the flagship among Mercedes SUVs.
Some of the key features in this regard include:
- Aerodynamic wheels;
- Underbody panelling;
- Running boards.
These running boards are special as they’ve been developed by using the knowledge bank of Formula One. This aids in directing the airflow around the vehicle for reducing the drag force.

Of course, it’s a bigger vehicle so it can’t beat the 0.2 drag coefficient of the EQS sedan. But still, Mercedes has attempted to reduce it as much as possible.
How Many Variants Will The EQS SUV Have?
Let’s now discuss the different variants in which customers will get the EQS Mercedes SUVs.
There are two options for now which are the:
- EQS 450+;
- EQS 580 4-Matic.
The former variant will have a single motor that generates the following figures
- Power: 264.7 kW;
- Torque: 6 Nm.
The latter variant with its dual motor setup has:
- Power: 399.7 kW;
- Torque: 2 Nm.
These are impressive figures which will give a sporty feel to the drivers.
Battery Pack
Regardless of which variant of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV you choose, you’ll get the same 107.8 kWh battery pack.

While no official figures have yet been revealed, we expect to get a range of around 560 km on a full charge.
How Fast Does It Charge?
For most EV owners, one of the most important questions is how fast an EV can charge.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV does not disappoint in this regard. It can charge from 10% to 80% battery in just 31 minutes. However, for getting access to fast charging, you will need a 110 kW charger.
On the Level 2 240V AC source, expect to reach from 10% to 100% in over 11 hours.
A Lap Of Luxury On The Inside
The EQS SUV has everything that you would expect from a flagship Mercedes vehicle.

Its plush interior is loaded with premium material. You will hardly find anything cheap or poorly built.
Some of the vehicle’s highlights include:
- Air suspension;
- Paddle shifters to adjust the degree of regenerative braking;
- 10° rear-axle steering for easy turning.
A few of the EQS 580 4 Matic specific features include:
- A massive instrument cluster of 12.3 inches;
- The central touch screen of 17.7 inches;
- The front passenger touch screen of 12.3 inches.

This means that the front end of the interior has a total of 56 inches of combined screen.
Pricing
No information about the pricing of the new Mercedes EQS SUV presently exists. We expect that we’ll get to hear more about this close to the launch of the vehicle in the US market.
Final Verdict
The German automaker is cognizant of the fact that for keeping up its reputation as one of the leading automakers in the world, it needs to merge the two currently booming sectors i.e. SUVs and EVs.
So, this is exactly what Mercedes-Benz has done with its all-new EQS SUV.
